Join us for a four-part progressive class series where we dive into the basics of Balboa! This class is open to any experience level, and will be taught by Graham Muirhead and Aleen Stanton.
Balboa developed from dancers adapting to crowded dance floors back in the 1920s and 30s in Southern California. It is close, smooth, and pairs nicely with fast music. This is a great class to take to expand your dance style. You should be comfortable dancing with a partner in close embrace (a chest-to-chest connection). Balboa features sliding and shuffling footwork, so leather soled shoes, or shoes that don’t have grip are recommended. In this class you will learn the pure balboa basic 8-count steps, such as the up-hold and down-hold, which feature quick quick slow rhythms. You will also learn some bal-swing moves from open position. Taking this class will help you expand your understanding of frame, connection, balance, and most importantly, navigating around crowded dance floors at a fast speed!
Dates: November 19, 26, Dec 3, 10 (Thursdays)
